Sexy Fashion: Indian summer

In like a lion, out like a lamb. As quickly as it came, Spring 2007 is over - at least on the runways. Here are the seasonal highlights.

Fresh to the fashion game Lela Designs’ (www.leladesigns.ca) played a round of eco-friendly golf in argyle knits, high neck Edwardian collars and a returning favourite from this past spring, walking shorts.

Another newbie, Asluxe (www.asluxe.com) from Sarah Wigman and Ashley Guidi, also made its debut showcasing “The Grey Area,” a sexy yet powerful collection.

Sure, some pieces may be too hot for the office, and really meant for a girls’ night out, but most easily shift from day to night with the tossing on of a sweater or pair of trousers.

The man (or men) of the hour were the Kwantlen College University grad and the M.A.C. makeup artist who combined to form Evan & Dean (www.evananddean.com).

Evan & Dean models may have been wigged out in platinum blonde, but this is a contemporary line made with every woman in mind. Watch for it at Holt Renfrew this spring.

The shape of the day: Bubble, tulip and balloon. Over-sized dresses and skirts, although toned down from the tent-like proportions at the couture shows, are still going strong for spring.

Blushing Designs (www.blushingdesigns.com) showed a subtle bubble-hemmed lace dress in champagne. While Mara Gottler (www.maragottler.com) offered a bright orange balloon skirt.

Another trend continuing into 2007: Accessorizing your natural waistline with a wide belt as seen at Joanna Kulpa’s (www.kulpa.ca) shades of black, white and grey or silver show. Big buckle and leftover yardage is leaving you looking more frumpy than the fabulous? Twist the buckle to the back, a la Mara Gottler. Faux pas solved.

Suffering from S.A.D. (Spring Attire Desire)? It’s just six months (and counting) until the real deal … and B.C. Fashion Week Fall 2007.
