Mini fashionistas hit Paris

Aussie winners of the Lancome Awards

Australian Fashion Week might be just around the corner but some young designers are taking their talent straight to Paris.

Three Sydney students last night scored tickets to the world’s fashion capital after being named the Australian finalists for the Lancome Colour Design Awards.

University of Technology Sydney fashion student Laura Prideaux, of Chatswood, said the prize would send her stylish career off in the right direction.

“I really want to work in Paris or London,” she said.

“I want to learn as much as I can and I think there are just more opportunities to do that overseas.”

Ms Prideaux said she spent plenty of sleepless nights putting her creations together.

“For the past six weeks Ihave been working from 8am to 3am the next day,” she said.

The 22-year-old will join fellow UTS students Robby Tija and Lee Mathews in Paris.

The trio will battle budding designers from 10 countries for the top prize of more than $30,000 next month.

Other international fashion schools involved in the five-year-old competition include London’s prestigious St Martin’s College of Art and Design.
