Hot L.A. brand Zooey by designer Alice Heller
It all began with the search for the ultimate t- shirt! Expanding from an initial t-shirt line in 2004, hot L.A. brand Zooey is the brainchild of designer Alice Heller. Originally from New York, Heller moved to California because of her love of the outdoors and sporting life.
The Zooey style takes inspiration from both the East and West Coast, reflected in the mix of New York sophistication combined with the casual lifestyle of California, topped of with Heller’s obsession for great fit and quality. After searching for the perfect navy t-shirt, Heller saw an opportunity to raise the bar and set about creating the most luxurious tee, the one she could never find.
“We have Zooey devotees that will wear nothing other than Zooey t-shirts. They are an addiction for many”, says Heller. Heller has worked with factories to develop different weaves of 100% supima cotton to create the ultimate cotton to work with. Because of the quality of the fabric and the weave, garments drape the body perfectly with just enough stretch and keep their fresh look and shape even after washing. Building on the t-shirt range, Zooey now offers a range of tops, dresses and jackets in a variety of beautiful fabrics including cashmere cotton blends, jersey and pique.
From her stylish short gray hair cut, to her funky eyeglasses a sense of style and creativity exude from Alice Heller. From the outside one can tell she knows how to put things together, in fact her entire look from head to toe is perfect. However, it is not the type of intimidating perfection. Instead, it is well thought out, modern, classic, and perfectly balanced. It inspires one to think and feel, “I could do that.”
A veteran in the fashion industry, Alice got her start working for trendsetters Doug and Suzy Tompkins at Esprit. Early on in her career Alice was recognized for her sharp eye and keen sense of style. More importantly, Alice has been praised for her ability to forecast changes in fashion. As a true perfectionist, Alice seeks to deliver the best using only fabrics of the finest quality and creating pieces with a tailored fit.
Alice is making it easy for women to wear their favorite things and look sexy and luxurious while even in the most casual of clothes. As the creator of Zooey, Alice reengineered the t-shirt to be a focal point in the wardrobe. Alice lives in Los Angeles where she plays an active role in the community. Alice is passionate about the environment and supporting her retailers in their philanthropic causes. When she is not working or coming up with new designs, Alice can be found cycling.
