Fashion extravaganza was a theatrical treat

FISHNET stockings, basques and six-inch heels were very much in vogue at the Waterford News & Star Fashion Show with a Difference…and that was just for the men!

Yes, it was another night of sheer madness and mayhem at the appropriately named “A Night On Broadway” extravaganza, in aid of MRSA and Families, with some of Waterford’s best known faces taking to the catwalk.

Kicking off the show were some young dancers from the De Braam School of Theatre and Dance, while the older dancers gave a magnificent ballet display later on in the show.

The superb performance of the Breakbeat dancers was a major talking point on the night and left people in awe of their skills, while the audience sat back and relaxed to the fantastic vocals of Waterford’s best known entertainers, Vicki Graham, Ray Collins, Michael Joseph O’Brien and Gabrielle Cummins.

But undoubtedly stealing the show on the night were the “Sweet Transvestites” from the Rocky Horror Show. Actor and musical theatre performer Kieran Doyle, Niall Byrne of the Tower Hotel, undertaker John Thompson and renowned singer and actor Jamie Murphy took to the catwalk in drag and had the audience falling off their seats with laughter!

The brave boys, accompanied by Martin Cosgrave, who rose to fame with boy band Final Four, reappeared a short while later causing a stir as they shed their clothes to the Tom Jones classic “Leave Your Hat On” from the Full Monty!

With fantastic fashions from local stores Debenhams, Shaws, Everything But The Groom, Fitzgerald’s Menswear, Kelly’s, Ahvage, Sasha, Swamp and others, it certainly was a night to remember!
