Fusion extends to fashion in new shop

A boutique for “Polynesian fusion” fashions has opened in Kapahulu, owned by a 25-year-old Hawaiian-Samoan-Tahition-Chinese-English woman.

Summer Vaimaona, Kamehameha Schools class of 1999, calls her shop Soleil. It opened Monday next-door to Leonard’s Bakery in the building that houses Karaoke Hut.

“My inspiration in fashion has always come from being around beautiful Polynesian woman of all ages and sizes,” Vaimaona said. She specified the shop will include plus sizes.

Her shop carries lines from boutique designers in the South Pacific as well as from Los Angeles and New York. Accessories come from Tahiti, Samoa and elsewhere. Seoleil has a line from the Cook Islands named TAV which features block printed dresses, skirts and tops, and local Hawaii designers such as Ginger 13, Roberta Oaks, Cirque and Wings Hawaii.
