Swimsuit model: Campaign girls for Toray, San-ai and Asahi Kasei Fibers pose together in a swimsuit show.
Bikini-clad stick insects adorned this week’s top spot in the MSN-Mainichi Interactive Web site’s entertainment rankings for June 1-7, tailed by news on Morning Musume leader Miki Fujimoto’s relationship revelations — and her predictable “decision” to leave the all-girl pop conveyor belt.
Swimsuit manufacturer San-ai made a splash ahead of its full-scale summer sales pitch with a show of its new designs at the Nishi Ginza Department Store in Tokyo on June 2. Campaign girls for San-ai, and two other major manufacturers, Toray and the distinctly unsexy-sounding Asahi Kasei Fibers strutted around for the cameras, and the 176-photo special on the MSN-Mainichi Interactive site attracted a fair helping of “swimwear connoisseurs” over the weekend.
And with summer sneaking over the horizon the San-ai collection wasn’t the only swimsuit special grabbing the hits, with readers also zooming in on an article and photo special for the 2007 Parco Swimdress Collection, featuring 20-year-old model Leah Dizon.
The second most popular article of the week featured 22-year-old Miki Fujimoto, the leader of all-girl pop meat grinder Morning Musume. Earlier this week the paparazzi caught her out on a date with 31-year-old comedian Tomoharu Shoji at a stone sauna, of all places. Fujimoto reportedly admitted that she was in a relationship and handed in her notice of her own accord.
An article featuring the full text of Fujimoto’s comments, which were released by her agency, and her future plans also scooped the hits.
Ex-Morning Musume leader Yuko Nakazawa was also wheeled out to provide some choice comments on the younger singer’s move at a news conference on June 5, saying, “It’s something that she’s decided to do, so I think she’ll take responsibility and put in a good effort.”
Ai Takahashi, the 20-year-old singer set to replace Fujimoto as leader, declared at an event on Friday that she would do her best to fill Fujimoto’s shoes.
Also in the news was 31-year-old actress Ryoko Yonekura, who boldly appeared in a commercial for a beauty salon clad only in a ribbon. News conferences by celebrity Asami Kumakiri and actress Yoko Mitsuya also ranked among the top entertainment stories. (Mainichi)
