the fashion industry feet first with a line of super-sexy boots

Shay Ramji likes things that sparkle and shine. So it’s no wonder that while vacationing in China, a pair of satiny smooth, bejewelled boots caught her eye.

“I was like, ‘Oh my god, I have to have them,’” recalls Ramji, who made sure that she bought a pair before boarding her flight home. “And when I got back to Vancouver everyone was like, ‘Where did you get those boots? Where did you get those boots?’”

It turns out there was a hole in Vancouver’s satiny smooth, bejewelled boot market. (Who knew?) So within two months, she returned to China with her own designs and a business loan in tow. The result is Shay Couture, a line of boots that are sexy enough for the bedroom, but made for the ballroom.

“They’re not specifically made for the bedroom,” insists Ramji - though she does admit that she turns a lot of heads in her spectator pumps. “They’re more formal, like if you’re wearing a nice dress - these just make the outfit formal. Whereas leather or pleather boots would just kill the outfit.”

As far as wearing Shay Couture like foot lingerie Ramji says, “To each her own.”

Having said that, she doesn’t want her fall collection to be seen as “slutty.”

“I really want to go classy-sexy, rather than cheap-sexy,” she says of her boots, which come in a variety of Bollywood-inspired colours. “That’s why I wouldn’t want them sold at sex shops or anything like that. I mean I want to see everyone wearing them, but I’m hoping it will be classy girls who go to classy clubs wearing classy dresses.”
