Michael Faircloth designs on display in Fashion on Main exhibit
the stories Michael Faircloth could tell – starting with what it’s really like to kick back at the Crawford ranch with the president and first lady. Someday the Dallas designer may actually pen that book, but for now, we’ll just have to be content to savor his work in a new exhibition at Fashion on Main.
“Reflections: Work by Michael Faircloth” showcases more than two dozen custom suits and gowns made over nearly two decades for prominent clients such as Dallas philanthropist Louise Gartner and Laura Bush (though her famous 2000 inaugural gown isn’t included; the Smithsonian has that). Most are on loan from the Texas Fashion Collection at the University of North Texas, where Mr. Faircloth earned his design degree in 1983.
“It was interesting to look back,” he says. “So much of what I do is inspired by the client that, often, more of the client’s personality comes through than mine.”
