Singapore serviceman jailed for wearing bikini in public
A Singapore national serviceman was jailed for one day and fined 11,000 Singapore dollars (7,692 U.S. dollars) because he showed in a lift early one morning wearing only a pink bikini, according to media reports Wednesday.
Tan Wen Zhong, 21, admitted to five charges, including “outraging the modesty” of the woman who shared the lift with him and “fraudulent possession of women’s underwear.”
Tan was clad in the bikini when he stepped into the lift with a 20-year-old woman on April 12, according to Singapore media.
The woman bolted as soon as the lift reached her floor. Her mother reported the incident to police.
Tan was also accused of grabbing a 23-year-old woman’s buttocks a year ago and of shoplifting a pair of sunglasses two years ago.
Tan was sentenced on Monday for the indecent “fashion parade.” Police found 46 pieces of women’s panties, bras, bikinis, skirts and shorts in Tan’s flat in addition to pornographic films.
