* Size her up: “Make sure you know her size — this is the only time you are allowed to look in her underwear drawer,” says Hopwood. Find her size, style and shape preferences e.g. Brazilian thong versus a full brief. It does help if you know her favourite colour too.
* Bigger is not always better: “If you are uncertain of her panty size, always opt for the smaller size, this will ensure you do not spend the night on the couch.”
* Loiter with intent: “Don’t hang around the lingerie department — you may be mistaken for a pervert. Rather ask for the lingerie consultant.” Hopwood adds that most Edgars’ stores have Triumph Consultants on hand to help you with your purchase. Consultants are trained to assist you in selecting the best option.
* Don’t skimp on the price: Lingerie is a luxury purchase and a wonderful way to spoil that special person in your life and she will spoil you in return.
* Know her style preferences: “Remember you are buying the lingerie for her to wear. Find a balance between what she would love to wear versus what you would love her to wear! If she hates it, she’s not going to wear it and it will definitely look better on her than in that drawer.”
* Don’t grab the first thing you see: Take your time and put thought and effort into the purchase. Hopwood stresses that lingerie is a dangerous item to buy, get it right and you will be in her good books, get it wrong and you will end up in the dog box.
* Wrap it up to enjoy unwrapping later: Once you have spent the time and effort buying her the perfect gift, don’t forget to wrap it beautifully. Most stores offer a gift wrapping facility. However, if you would prefer to wrap it yourself, wrapping the lingerie in tissue paper or soft fabric looks very professional. Place it in a beautiful box closed with ribbon thereafter to impress her!
